Ibiza and Formentera, they are not the exception, they enchant us with their people and their culture, climate and especially their history. Both islands share various facets, they have both lived together for many years with tradition and modernity, it’s curious; they both breathe a strong rural character yet also are mad about freeing themselves. Reynaldo Luza.* As we have already said on various occasions in the Ball Pagès blog, our espadrilles start out from the traditional footwear of Ibiza and formentera, which comes from centuries ago in the rural world to go and work the soil and fields and also on Sundays, to move. In the year 2013 Ball Pagès learnt the traditional “[savoir-faire](https://en.ball-pages.com/pages/proceso)” of the island, directly from the hands of iots artesans, with the will to put on the roads of Europe’s great capitals, a footwear which at the time, and for many years, had only graced the feet of traditional dancers from Ibiza and Formentera, the “Ball Pagès” (trans. “Country Dance”). In the spring of 2014, the [first Ball Pagès](https://en.ball-pages.com/collections/permanente) was born, the objective was to marry tradition and modernity, the rural and the city. How did we do this? By taking a single, unique, simple piece out of its context, suddenly writing in a new value and a fresh view to footwear that was on the brink of extinction.
